Delaware Blitz Championship

The last event of the series, a game/15 round robin,  took place on Saturday, May 31.  For the entire series,  a total of 48 different players participated in at least one event.  Congratulations to the top 3 in each division who will receive trophies: (the complete standings can be found here)

The trophy presentation will take place on July 19 at the DCA Blitz Championship at Bear Library. (Announcement is on www.uschess.org).

Also, 3 players attended all 5 series events and they win a scorebook. Good job for perfect attendance to Philip Saponaro, Mark Byerly, and Yury Markushin.

Thanks go out to Rick Lathem, who helped to conceive the idea,  and Michelle Pergeorelis who provided computer support.    And thanks to Dean Miller who had one of his 2nd Saturday Milford quads in the series.

Thank you to everyone who attended the series, no matter how many events you played.  In my opinion, this has been a big success!

Bear Library, 101 Governors Place, Bear DE 19701. Event #4 in the Delaware G.P. Challenge (Not USCF Grand Prix). In 2 Sections 1000 and above: 5SS, G/29, $$: $50-30. under 1000: 5SS, G/29, $$: $50-30. ALL: EF: $15. Reg.: starts at 10:05. Rds.: first round at 10:35, lunch break after round #2. The results are in after stage 3 of the Grand Prix Series Challenge. Stage 3 was a 2-day swiss-style tournament at Union United Methodist. The top of the leader board looks the same for divisions 2 & 3, although several other players have entered the series and moved into the middle slots - particularly in division 2 where Michael Pergeorelis has moved into second place behind Yury. In division 1, there is now a sole leader - Philip Saponaro has pulled out to a 1/2 point lead over Long Xu and a full point over Mark Byerly and Terence Coffee. Phil and Mark had a hard-fought head-to-head battle at this last event that resulted in this standings change.  See the full tournament wall chart here.  The next event is May 17 at the Bear Library - be sure to enter to earn points and overtake the leaders!
