The Newark Chess Club will continue our 4th Sat of the Month Quad throughout the new year 2007.

When: Feb 24, 2007. (our 46th)

Where: Perkins Student Center (U of De.) in the Ewing Room (look for signs)
325 Academy Street in Newark, De. (Parking available at P.S.C., the entrance is back off the road and is only $2.50 all day.)

Format: Game 75 mins./40, S/D 30mins. in grouping of 4 players of equal playing strength.

Registration: begins at 9am-9:45.

Cost: is $20, DCA membership required ($10), other states accepted.
Women players are $10 in the first Quarter of this year.

Prizes: $40 for each winner.
Any player that scores a perfect 3.0 gets a free quad and every 10th quad is free.

Newark Swiss Open

DATES: Sunday Dec 31; 2006

LOCATION: Courtyard by Marriott: 48 Geoffrey Dr. Newark, DE.
(next to Toys –R-Us) on Churchman’s Road

FORMAT: 4 round swiss,

Time control: game 75 mins.

REGISTRATION: Begins at 9 am, ends at 9:30

SCHEDULE: Round 1 begins at 9:45am, Round 2 at 12pm,
Round 3 at 2:30pm, round 4 at 5:30pm. Awards 8:15

PRIZES: $400 total (b23). Three divisions: Gold (above 1501), Silver (1500-1000), Bronze (999 and under). 1st-$75, 2nd-$50, 3rd-$25. Door prizes, Pizza lunch, snacks and drinks.

ENTRY FEE: $25 before 12/20 and $30 after 12/21 (all ages).

Congratulations to David Gertler and Yi Song for winning the open section of the 2006 Delaware State Championship. Both players finished with a score of 4.5/5, edging out Terence Coffee who ended with 4/5. Akeem Thompson won the under-1800 section also with a 4.5/5 score. The under 1200 section was won with a perfect score of 5/5 by Marvin Durbin and Julian Lurie took home the scholastic level championship with a 4.5/5.
